Valentine’s Day — Girls Night Out: Dinner and Dancing (Go Figure)

“All the single ladies, all the single ladies; All the single ladies, all the single ladies; All the single ladies, all the single ladies; all the single ladies…Now put your hands up!…”

Thank you, Beyoncé.

So, @SingleGalNYC and I headed out for an anti-Valentine’s Day evening.  First, dinner and beverages at the Vander Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown. (Their wait staff is spacey, frazzled and are in desperate need of (re)training. Never again.  Pity. Our “lite” bites for the most part were tasty.)

Our next stop of the night was Canal Room in Tribeca for “Love Bites” —  Cover bands belting out 80’s tunes related to love?  Why not?  It was all in good fun and we had a great time.  Sometimes you can’t take everything in life so seriously.

Highlights of the night at Canal Room:

  • Guy in the Audience: “Blue and White Striped Shirt” …He was really into the music, you couldn’t help but watch him. His enthusiasm was contagious. They need to give that man free entry.
  • All the Female Singers: They were AMAZING!  The lead singer from the band Jessie’s Girl, the woman in the red coat, the “lead” who could easily hang with Joan Jett, both chicks in the fish net stockings (ripped and the one with the designs running up the leg) — too many to call out.  They were all terrific.
  • Band Member – Keyboardist: Or I call him, “Tight Pants” (it was striped)…He needs to give @SingleGalNYC a call…Just sayin’…There’s something about bald dudes…
  • Band Member – Singer and Guitarist: Will Farrell’s Doppelganger
  • Band Member – Singer: A thinner, taller version of Gilbert Gottfried
  • Band Member – Singer and Guitarist: His hair was true 80’s “hair band” hair. Actually, was it his hair or did he, as he claimed, buy it in a store?

Strangest moments of the night:

  • Band Member – Singer: The “drunk” lady “act”.  She had an amazing voice — there’s no denying that.  BUT another “Pity” moment of my night — Pity her performance was overshadowed by the unnecessary almost-wardrobe malfunction and “act”.
  • The “dancers” or whoever they were that came on during my Joan Jett girl performance towards the end of the night. Wings and silliness on stage wasn’t necessary at all.  It was more of a distraction during an otherwise wonderful performance by JJ girl.

    • Unless it’s bad weather or I have to work late so it forces me to go home, I’m out — even if I have to wrangle a fellow single. I’m glad I was out on what was a great weather night. We take these as we can get them during the winter.
